Chief Executive CY Leung today promoted Hong Kong's unique role as the "super-connector" in the region at the 12th Association of Southeast Asian Nations Leadership Forum in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

In his keynote address at the ASEAN Leadership Forum's opening ceremony, Mr Leung said that thanks to the "one country, two systems" arrangement, Hong Kong shares with its international business partners - including ASEAN partners - the double benefits of 'One Country' and 'Two Systems'.

Speaking at a dinner with key members of Malaysia's chambers and business associations, the Chief Executive said Hong Kong, as the "super-connector" between the Mainland and the world, has long served as the gateway, the superhighway, for global business eager to cash in on the Mainland's vast market promise.

Mr Leung also said the Mainland's "One Belt, One Road" initiatives would benefit Hong Kong. As the Mainland strengthens its economic and trade connections with the Belt-Road countries, Hong Kong can provide Mainland enterprises with a wide range of professional services in the financial and legal areas.

The "One Belt, One Road" initiatives will create huge opportunities for Hong Kong's financial services industry and professionals as well as our ASEAN partners, Mr Leung added.

The Chief Executive today called on Malaysian Prime Minister Dato' Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak. He also held bilateral meetings with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen; Laos Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong; Myanmar President Thein Sein; and Singapore Prime Minster Lee Hsien Loong.

Mr Leung is scheduled to meet with Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-cha before returning to Hong Kong.
