Reform talks to continue: CS

October 26, 2014

The Government is willing to continue talks with students on constitutional reform, Chief Secretary Carrie Lam says.

Speaking to the media after an event today, Mrs Lam said she believes society hopes the talks will achieve consensus and solve the current deadlock.

She noted that Hong Kong may not have full ability to implement constitutional reform. It has insisted three principles when seeking consensus on the issue – maintaining the ‘One country two systems’ policy and the Basic Law, maintaining the rule of law, and maintaining Hong Kong as a prosperous, stable, safe and harmonious society.

She stressed that the Government’s decisions and work on political reform are for the people's benefit.
