Gov't condemns CGO blockade

(October 03, 2014)

The Government today condemned protesters for blocking access roads to the Central Government Offices at Tamar, leading to the suspension of services.

In a statement, the Government stressed that blocking roads to the government building is a serious offence and affects staff working there. It noted that any government in any country is obligated to deliver normal services to the public.

About 100 government staff turned up for work this morning, while about 3,000 staff could not enter and had to resort to contingency plans set up by individual departments. Visitor activities to the building have had to be cancelled, also.

The Government said it had shown the greatest tolerance to the protesters gathered outside the CGO, but criticised their means of expressing their views which had become illegal, irrational and unreasonable.

The Government urged those gathering outside the CGO not to block access to the building and to leave peacefully, and as soon as possible.
