Chief Secretary Carrie Lam reiterated today that the Occupy Central action would almost certainly be unlawful, and not in the overall public interest.
She told reporters that while the protest action has not yet taken place, its convenors had reported that it would try to force the Government to accept certain reform proposals by obstructing traffic or pedestrian flow in Hong Kong, or even paralysing the whole of Central.
From this perspective, she said, one could easily conclude the action would breach Hong Kong laws.
Mrs Lam said the rule of law is among Hong Kong's most important core values, and it would not be easily overturned by such radical actions.
