Boundary changes broached

October 22, 2013
The Government tabled the District Councils Ordinance (Amendment of Schedules 1 & 3) Order 2013 at the Legislative Council today to adjust the boundaries of Eastern and Wan Chai Districts, and amend their number of elected members.

The Constitutional & Mainland Affairs Bureau recommended the Tin Hau DCCA (C16) and Victoria Park DCCA (C18) areas be transferred from Eastern to Wan Chai District.

The number of elected Eastern District Council seats would be reduced from 37 to 35 under the plan, while Wan Chai District Council seats would rise from 11 to 13.

Subject to the Legislative Council's approval, the Electoral Affairs Commission will make recommendations on the demarcation of constituency boundaries for the 2015 District Council election next year having regard to the new district boundaries and the revised number of seats.

The Registration & Electoral Office will prepare for the 2015 election in accordance with these amendments.
