95 JPs appointed

Ninety-five people have been appointed Justices of the Peace this year, including 54 non-official and 41 official ones.
 
Their main function is to visit prisons, detention centres and other institutions to ensure their effective management and to ensure no one is unfairly treated or deprived of their rights. They can also be required by the Chief Executive to perform other duties.
 
The list of appointees was gazetted today.
