Chief Executive CY Leung has welcomed the Legislative Council president’s decision to end the debate on the Appropriation Bill for the Budget, and hopes lawmakers can fulfil their duty to scrutinise the bill.
Speaking to the media today, Mr Leung said he hopes that the bill can be put to a vote as soon as possible.
He said filibustering in the council has created a backlog of tasks related to people’s livelihood.
Mr Leung said he hopes that once the filibustering has stopped, the council will be able to continue to fulfil its social responsibility.
On the topic of processing free television licence applications, Mr Leung said he and the Executive Council have been following up on the matter, and will announce their results when ready.
