CS rejects bogus housing claim

February 08, 2013
Chief Secretary Carrie Lam has refuted a fraudulent online press release that claims the Government will take further measures to address the overheated property market.

She told the media today the claim is wrong, and urged the public to be vigilant and not be misled by fraudulent news.

The Government condemned those involved for spreading a malicious message to disrupt market order.

Police have launched an investigation into the case. It said sending malicious messages online can warrant charges of accessing a computer with criminal or dishonest intent under the Crime Ordinance, in which an offender is liable to five years in jail.

Meanwhile, on the Chief Executive and Hong Kong Economic Journal newspaper issue, Mrs Lam reiterated that the Government will uphold the freedoms of speech and press as enshrined in the Basic Law. She noted Mr Leung responded to the issue yesterday, and the Government will not comment on the matter.

Visiting the Lunar New Year fair at Sha Tsui Road Playground in Tsuen Wan, Mrs Lam wished Hong Kong people good health and fortune in the Year of the Snake.
