CS asks electors to vote

September 09, 2012
Chief Secretary Carrie Lam has called on electors to vote in the 2012 Legislative Council Election, reminding them that each elector has two votes – one for geographical constituencies and one for functional constituencies.

Speaking to the media after casting her votes at South Island School today, Mrs Lam said the Electoral Affairs Commission is committed to ensuring the election is conducted in a fair, clean and honest manner.

She said under the 'one-person-two-votes' arrangement, more than 3 million registered electors can cast one vote each in their respective geographical constituency and the newly created District Council (second) functional constituency.

She said the number of LegCo seats will increase from 60 to 70.

Mrs Lam urged registered electors to exercise their voting right enjoyed under the Basic Law.
