Stephen Lam to step down

May 06, 2012
Chief Secretary Stephen Lam announced today he will leave the Government when his term ends in July, to study theology with his wife at Oxford University.

Briefing the media after attending a radio programme this morning, Mr Lam said his decision has been made for a long time. Prior to the Chief Executive Election held on March 25, he expressed his personal wish to leave Hong Kong to Mainland officials.

He said he is very honoured to have served Hong Kong for the last three decades.

He said with the help of the Government, Hong Kong has made progress on several aspects in recent years, including advanced democratic development, closer economic co-operation with the Mainland and a strengthened relationship with Taiwan.

Chief Executive-elect CY Leung thanked Mr Lam for his substantial contribution to Hong Kong's development.
