CE pledges to ensure smooth transition
March 26, 2012
Chief Executive Donald Tsang and Chief Executive-Elect Leung Chun-ying met today, and agreed on key elements of the transition.
Mr Tsang told reporters one of his remaining tasks is to ensure a smooth transition of administration. The CE-Elect's Office has been set up to help Mr Leung to form his new administration.
"I am sure in the months ahead, my office, the Chief Executive's Office, as well as the Office of the Chief Executive-elect, will ensure all these tasks will be well performed," he said.
He congratulated Mr Leung and pledged that he would receive maximum support from himself and his team.
He said the election process had been smooth, underlining the success of the 'One country, two systems' principle, and of 'Hong Kong people running Hong Kong'.
"It was an important milestone in our constitutional development," he said.
He also urged Hong Kong people to support Mr Leung as the new Chief Executive, who would lead Hong Kong to a more prosperous tomorrow.
Mr Leung thanked Mr Tsang and paid him respect for his contribution to Hong Kong as Chief Executive.
He also asked Mr Tsang to pass on his gratitude to all government departments and civil servants who were responsible, either directly or indirectly, for the election's smooth organisation.
He said he would work hard to ensure the transition will work well in the next few months.
"I am sure with the help of the Chief Executive and his team, I will be able to roll out my policy initiatives based on my election manifesto," he said.
