HK, Mainland sign culture pact

December 15, 2011

The Home Affairs Bureau and the State Administration of Cultural Heritage have signed an agreement on enhancing cultural heritage exchanges and co-operation.

Secretary for Home Affairs Tsang Tak-sing and State Administration of Cultural Heritage Director General Shan Jixiang signed the pact.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr Tsang said from time to time, the Mainland has loaned precious cultural artefacts to Hong Kong for display here, allowing Hong Kong people to have more opportunities to appreciate the nation's arts and culture. The Government is thankful for the State Administration of Cultural Heritage's support, he added.

"According to the agreement signed today, we will take more active steps to bring in large-scale exhibitions from the Mainland. At the same time, we also hope that more Hong Kong exhibitions will be staged on the Mainland to strengthen mutual exchange," Mr Tsang said.

A joint working group will be set up to give direction and co-ordinate cultural heritage exchanges and co-operation.
