Geo-referenced public facilities data and real-time traffic information is now available for free download and value-added re-use by the public from the portal website
Data.One.
An 18-month pilot scheme launching today, the geo-referenced public facilities data includes names, addresses and co-ordinates of public facilities such as government offices, hospitals, schools, country parks as well as recreational, cultural and sports venues.
Real-time traffic data includes the average traffic speed of main roads, average cross-harbour journey times, the latest special traffic news and images.
While such information is already available online,
Data.One
makes it easier for the public to download the data for value-added re-use.
Public-sector information is not only a valuable source of reference, but can also generate valuable applications.
The data provided on
Data. One is all downloadable and some is in XML format for convenient data transfer and computer processing. Users will also be assisted by the portal's guidance on downloading.
The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer said the downloaded data can be used for academic research or developing innovative services or applications, such as mobile applications showing the road-traffic situation.
The office will review the pilot scheme's effectiveness and will consider the overall policy for disseminating public-sector information for value-added re-use.
