5.5k local COVID-19 cases detected

September 21, 2022

The Centre for Health Protection today said it is looking into 5,541 additional locally acquired COVID-19 cases, of which 1,586 were identified through nucleic acid tests and 3,955 via rapid antigen tests.

Separately, 146 imported cases were found and nine more patients passed away.

Two residential care homes for the elderly and another two for disabled people logged five virus cases involving their residents.

There were also 760 positive cases reported by 526 schools. Ten of them were asked to temporarily suspend face-to-face lessons for specific classes.

As 15 students of Li Po Chun United World College of Hong Kong in Ma On Shan contracted the virus recently, the centre has advised it to suspend all face-to-face classes for a week.

Due to a number of positive cases, 62 specified places are included in a compulsory testing notice. It also covers five specified premises in Tseung Kwan O, Chai Wan and Yau Tong where some sewage samples tested positive for the virus.

The Government will reopen the mobile specimen collection stations at Ka Lung Court in Tin Wan and Bellagio in Sham Tseng tomorrow.

Since there were positive sewage test results with relatively high viral loads in several areas in Southern, North and Eastern districts, the Housing Department and respective district offices will distribute COVID-19 rapid test kits to relevant residents as well as cleaning workers and property management staff working there.
