HK logs 6k local COVID-19 cases

September 19, 2022

The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating 6,086 additional locally acquired COVID-19 cases, of which 1,479 were identified through nucleic acid tests and 4,607 via rapid antigen tests.

Separately, 174 imported cases were found and 10 more patients passed away.

Three residential care homes for the elderly and one for disabled people logged eight virus cases involving their residents.

Meanwhile, there were 1,881 infection cases reported by 866 schools from the afternoon of September 16 to this morning. Twenty schools were asked to suspend face-to-face lessons for specific classes temporarily.

The centre also noted that the Fanling Assemblies of God Kindergarten in North District has registered nearly 30 virus cases over the past seven days, adding it has advised the school to temporarily suspend all its face-to-face classes.

Due to a number of positive cases, 57 specified places are included in a compulsory testing notice. It also covers 11 specified premises in Tung Chung, Cheung Sha Wan, Tseung Kwan O, Tai Wai and Chai Wan where some sewage samples tested positive for the virus.

The Government will reopen the mobile specimen collection station at Shek Pai Wan Estate in Southern District tomorrow, while the stations at Wang Tau Hom Estate in Lok Fu and Chuk Yuen North Estate in Wong Tai Sin will extend their services to September 21.

As there were positive sewage test results with relatively high viral loads in several areas in Kwai Tsing, Tsuen Wan and Wong Tai Sin districts, the Housing Department and respective district offices will distribute COVID-19 rapid test kits to relevant residents as well as cleaning workers and property management staff working there.
