8.6k local virus cases reported

August 30, 2022

The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating 8,611 additional locally acquired COVID-19 cases.

Separately, 237 imported cases were detected and 13 more patients passed away.

Meanwhile, six residential care homes for the elderly and two for disabled people logged coronavirus infection cases.

Furthermore, 140 schools reported 319 cases involving 238 students and 81 staff. Specific classes at seven schools have been advised to suspend face-to-face lessons for one week.

This afternoon, the Government made a restriction-testing declaration to cover Fung Chak House of Choi Wan (II) Estate in Wong Tai Sin, requiring people in the restricted area to undergo compulsory testing before the specified deadline.

Due to a number of positive cases, 58 specified places are included in a compulsory testing notice. It also covers another five specified locations in Tai Po, Sha Tin and Tai Wai where some sewage samples tested positive for the virus.

The Government will reopen the mobile specimen collection stations at Wah Fu (II) Estate in Pok Fu Lam and Cheung Wang Estate in Tsing Yi tomorrow.

Since there were positive sewage test results with relatively high viral loads in several areas in Kwun Tong, Tai Po and Yau Tsim Mong districts, the Housing Department will distribute COVID-19 rapid test kits to relevant residents as well as cleaning workers and property management staff working there.
