HK sees 4.4k local infection cases

July 31, 2022

The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating 4,455 additional locally acquired COVID-19 cases, of which 1,590 were directly identified through nucleic acid tests and 2,865 via rapid antigen tests that were verified.

Separately, 179 imported cases were reported.

An elderly care home in Kwai Chung detected one virus case involving a resident.

The centre added that one more patient passed away, bringing the total number of deaths in the fifth wave of the epidemic to 9,290.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health reiterated that the Government has all along established a mechanism that gives permission for people undergoing quarantine to leave briefly due to special circumstances.

It explained that all inbound travellers undergoing quarantine may apply to temporarily leave their place of quarantine and visit a relative who is critically ill or attend a funeral of the relative arranged at a funeral home or cemetery. Permission may be granted by an authorised officer of the department.

A total of 441 such requests were approved from April 1 to July 30, the department pointed out.

Due to a number of positive cases, 60 specified places are included in a compulsory testing notice. It also covers five specified premises in Yuen Long, Tai Wai and Tuen Mun where some sewage samples tested positive for the virus.

The Government will reopen the mobile specimen collection stations at Hing Man Estate in Chai Wan and Bellagio in Sham Tseng on August 1, while the stations at Chuk Yuen North Estate in Wong Tai Sin and Hung Fuk Estate in Hung Shui Kiu will extend their services to August 2.

As there were positive sewage test results with relatively high viral loads in several areas of Wan Chai, Tuen Mun and North District, the respective district offices will distribute COVID-19 rapid test kits to relevant residents as well as cleaning workers and property management staff working there.
