HK reports over 3.1k virus cases

July 18, 2022

The Centre for Health Protection today said it is looking into 3,182 additional locally acquired COVID-19 cases, of which 1,185 were directly identified through nucleic acid tests and 1,997 via rapid antigen tests that were verified.

Separately, 254 imported cases were reported.

Four elderly care homes and one residential care home for persons with disabilities detected one positive case each involving residents.

There were also 888 virus cases reported by 548 schools. The centre advised eight schools to suspend face-to-face lessons for specific classes for a week.

The centre added that three more patients passed away, bringing the total number of deaths in the fifth wave of the epidemic to 9,227.

Meanwhile, the Government made a restriction-testing declaration to cover Shing Chuen House of Shui Chuen O Estate in Sha Tin, requiring people in the restricted area to undergo compulsory testing before the specified deadline.

Due to a number of positive cases, 76 specified places are included in a compulsory testing notice. It also covers five specified premises in Ngau Chi Wan, Aberdeen, Ho Man Tin, Kwai Chung and Tseung Kwan O where some sewage samples tested positive for the virus.

The Government will reopen the mobile specimen collection station at Chuk Yuen North Estate in Wong Tai Sin tomorrow.

As there were positive sewage test results with relatively high viral loads in several areas of Tuen Mun and North District, the Housing Department and respective district offices will distribute COVID-19 rapid test kits to relevant residents as well as cleaning workers and property management staff working there.
