558 COVID-19 cases reported

June 8, 2022

The Centre for Health Protection today said it is looking into 558 additional COVID-19 cases, of which 61 are imported and the rest are locally infected.

Among the new cases, 257 were directly identified through nucleic acid tests while 301 via rapid antigen tests were verified.

The centre also received 94 reports of positive cases from 87 schools, involving 61 students and 33 staff.

Meanwhile, the Government made a restriction-testing declaration to cover Tower 1 of Lake Silver in Ma On Shan, requiring people in the restricted area to undergo compulsory testing before the specified deadline.

Due to a number of positive cases, 46 specified places are included in a compulsory testing notice.

The mobile specimen collection station at Hing Wah (II) Estate in Chai Wan will continue to operate tomorrow, while those at Bellagio in Sham Tseng, Hung Fuk Estate in Hung Shui Kiu and the open area next to Discovery Bay Fire Station will extend their services to June 10.

As there were positive sewage test results with relatively high viral loads in several areas of Kowloon City and Eastern districts, the Housing Department and respective district offices will distribute COVID-19 rapid test kits to relevant residents as well as cleaning workers and property management staff working there.
