February 9, 2022

The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating 1,161 additional COVID-19 cases, of which 1,153 are locally infected and eight are imported. Most of them involve the Omicron mutant strain.

According to the testing and quarantine arrangements for cases with mutant strains, people who stayed or worked in the same building as the residence of relevant cases will be subject to compulsory testing on specified dates.

In view of the positive sewage test results of Fung Ping House and Cheuk Ping House, Long Ping Estate in Yuen Long, the Government tonight made restriction-testing declarations to cover these buildings, requiring people in the restricted areas to undergo compulsory testing.

It also further extended the restriction-testing declaration period for Leung Kit House of Leung King Estate in Tuen Mun to tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the Hospital Authority announced that two patients of Caritas Medical Centre confirmed infected with COVID-19 passed away.

One of them, a 73-year-old man with chronic disease, was admitted to the hospital on February 7 due to a chest infection. His condition rapidly deteriorated, he went into cardiac arrest at 2.43am on February 8 and died at 4.45am. The case has been referred to the Coroner.

The other patient, a 76-year-old man with chronic disease, was admitted to the hospital on February 6 due to pleural effusion and respiratory symptoms. His condition gradually deteriorated and he passed away this morning.

In response to the positive sewage testing results in Yuen Long and Tai Po, 17 buildings are covered in a compulsory testing notice. This notice also includes 53 specified places linked to preliminarily positive and positive cases identified, the Government added.

Free testing service will be provided to citizens subject to compulsory testing at community testing centres and mobile specimen collection stations located at 59 places in the city tomorrow. Among them, the mobile specimen collection stations at the open area outside S.K.H. Wei Lun Primary School in Discovery Bay and the open area next to Discovery Bay Fire Station will be consolidated as a mobile station at the latter for deployment of resources to districts with need.

As regards the positive sewage test results found in different districts, the Home Affairs Department will distribute COVID-19 rapid test kits to residents, cleansing workers and property management staff living and working in those areas.
