625 COVID-19 cases reported

February 8, 2022

The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating 625 additional COVID-19 cases, of which 621 are locally infected and four are imported.

It added that 2,628 cases have been reported in the past 14 days.

To stop the potential risk of the virus spreading further, the centre will arrange residents of all units on the second floor of Fu Yuet House of Fu Cheong Estate in Sham Shui Po where cases were detected related to suspected environmental factors to undergo quarantine at a quarantine centre.

The Government tonight made restriction-testing declarations to cover Wang Shing House and Wang Chi House of Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po as well as Mei Fung House of Mei Lam Estate in Sha Tin, requiring people in the restricted areas to undergo compulsory testing.

It also extended the period of operation under the restriction-testing declarations covering Fu Yuet House of Fu Cheong Estate in Sham Shui Po and Leung Kit House of Leung King Estate in Tuen Mun until tomorrow.

In view of a number of preliminarily positive and positive cases, 60 specified places are included in a compulsory testing notice.

Since some sewage samples collected in Discovery Bay, Sha Tin and Tin Shui Wai tested positive for the virus, another five specified places are also covered in the notice.

Additional mobile specimen collection stations will be set up in Kowloon City, Cheung Sha Wan and Discovery Bay, while the station at Tsz Wan Shan Community Hall will continue to provide services.

Regarding the positive sewage testing results found in several areas in North District, Tai Po, Sha Tin and Yau Tsim Mong Disrict, the Home Affairs Department will distribute COVID-19 rapid test kits to residents, cleansing workers and property management staff living and working in those areas.

As Qatar Airways flight QR818 from Doha on February 6 had passengers who tested positive upon arrival, the Department of Health has prohibited the landing of the airline's passenger flights in Hong Kong from the relevant original port from February 8 to 21.
