HK sees 614 more COVID-19 cases

February 7, 2022

The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating 614 additional COVID-19 cases, of which 607 are locally infected and seven are imported.

It added that 2,123 cases have been reported in the past 14 days.

To stop the potential risk of the virus spreading further, the centre will arrange residents of buildings where cases were detected related to suspected environmental factors to undergo quarantine at a quarantine centre.

The buildings include Kai Yan House of Kai Tin Estate in Lam Tin, Him Tat House of On Tat Estate in Kwun Tong and Willow House of So Uk Estate in Cheung Sha Wan.

The Government tonight made a restriction-testing declaration to cover Fu Yuet House of Fu Cheong Estate in Sham Shui Po, requiring people in the restricted area to undergo compulsory testing.

Due to the fact that sewage discharged from Leung Kit House of Leung King Estate in Tuen Mun and Mei King House and Mei Chi House of Mei Tin Estate in Sha Tin tested positive for COVID-19, and over 72 people in the three buildings have preliminarily tested positive for the virus, the Government has extended the restriction-testing declaration period until tomorrow.

Meanwhile, in view of a number of preliminarily positive or positive cases, 73 specified premises are included in a compulsory testing notice.

As some sewage samples collected in Tsz Wan Shan, Yau Tong, Kowloon City and Wong Tai Sin have tested positive for the virus, 12 specified premises or areas are also covered in the notice.

The Government announced that starting today, the compulsory testing arrangement is streamlined to two tests. The first test should be taken within three days after the notice is issued, while the second one should be done within the period of the fourth to sixth day.

In light of positive test results for the COVID-19 virus from sewage samples, the Home Affairs Department has distributed rapid test kits to households, cleansing workers and property management staff of Siu Lung Court in Tuen Mun as well as cleansing workers and property management staff working in the area around Portland Street and Mong Kok Road.

The department will also distribute rapid test kits to residents, cleansing workers and property management staff working in several areas in Wong Tai Sin, Sham Shui Po, Sai Kung, Kwun Tong and Yuen Long where sewage samples were tested positive.

An additional mobile specimen collection station will be set up at Tai Hing Community Hall in Tuen Mun, while the station at the soccer pitch of Sun Chui Estate in Tai Wai will continue its operation to provide free testing services.

As Cathay Pacific flight CX724 from Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia on February 5 had passengers who tested positive upon arrival, the Department of Health has prohibited the landing of the airline's passenger flights in Hong Kong from the relevant original port from February 7 to 20.
