The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating 33 additional COVID-19 cases, comprising 28 imported and five that are epidemiologically linked with imported cases.

Of the new cases, 30 involve mutant strains while the mutation test results of three cases are pending.

Four of the linked cases are connected with previous infection case number 12754. One of them is a foreign domestic helper whose employer is a close contact of case number 12754, while the other three are either close or household contacts.

More preliminary positive cases emerged today, including a foreign domestic helper who is linked to the aforementioned domestic helper.

Updating the media on the epidemic situation this afternoon, Centre for Health Protection Communicable Disease Branch Head Dr Chuang Shuk-kwan said a further increase in cases could not be ruled out.

“For the foreign domestic helper (case), we are tracing those churchgoers (who attended) on January 1 and 2 that church, (which) amounts to tens of people. So we are a bit worried because they may have already spread the infection to their employers or other friends.”

Some of the cases had eaten at Six Garden Restaurant, G/F, 1A Gordon Road in Tin Hau on December 31 and the centre is urging people who had dined there to get in touch.

“We have some difficulty in tracing the (patrons of) Six Garden Restaurant (in Tin Hau) because some (of them used) their Octopus card, but some of the cards are not personalised. For those personalised Octopus cards, some of the (registered) phone numbers cannot be reached.”

Meanwhile, the Government made a restriction-testing declaration covering five premises this evening due to the detection of positive cases.

The declaration includes Pik On House (Block C), Yue On Court in Ap Lei Chau, Block 3, Phase 1, City Garden in North Point, 8-19 Fung Fai Terrace in Happy Valley, Mei Sun Building, 4-20 Kau Hui Chik Street in Tai Po and Kam Huen House (Block F), Kam Fung Court in Ma On Shan.

People within these specified restricted areas are required to undergo compulsory testing.

Meanwhile, in view of nine cases tested preliminarily positive involving mutant strains, 47 specified premises are included in the compulsory testing notice. Two schools are also subject to compulsory testing due to outbreaks of upper respiratory tract infection or influenza-like illness.

Additionally, those who had been at Six Garden Restaurant in Tin Hau from 8am to 10am on December 31 have to undergo testing on January 6 or 7, and report their test result to the centre by calling 2125 1111 or 2125 1122 as soon as possible.

The Government will set up or reopen mobile specimen collection stations at various locations to provide free testing services.
