6 imported virus cases found

December 2, 2021

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) today said it is investigating six additional COVID-19 cases, all of which are imported and carry the L452R mutant strain.

The new cases involve five men and one woman, aged 22 to 60. Five of them arrived from high-risk places while the remaining one was from a medium-risk place.

The 22-year-old male patient of case number 12447 is a close contact of seven previous imported cases and he tested positive at the Penny's Bay Quarantine Centre.

Among the other cases, three patients tested positive upon arrival at Hong Kong International Airport and two were confirmed infected with the virus during quarantine.

Regarding case number 12448, the 38-year-old male patient lives at Tower 2, Florient Rise in Tai Kok Tsui. He received two doses of the BioNTech vaccine in June and September in Hong Kong.

The patient travelled to Doha, Qatar, on November 9 after testing negative for COVID-19 the day before. He arrived in Hong Kong on November 30 from Doha by flight QR818 and his specimen collected upon arrival tested positive for the virus.

He remains asymptomatic and his specimen carried the L452R mutant strain, with a Ct value of over 30.

The CHP noted that epidemiological investigations and contact tracing of this case are underway.

As a prudent measure, the places where the patient lived and visited in Hong Kong during the incubation period have been included in a compulsory testing notice.

In view of a preliminary positive imported case who had stayed in Hong Kong during the incubation period, 12 specified premises are included in the compulsory testing notice.

Due to an outbreak of upper respiratory tract infection and/or influenza-like illness in nine schools, the relevant schools or their specified levels are also covered in the compulsory testing notice.

Meanwhile, specified people linked to Jovial Court, Peninsula Village in Discovery Bay are reminded to get tested tomorrow in accordance with the compulsory testing notice.

The Government will reopen the mobile specimen collection station at the open area outside Jovial Court tomorrow to provide free testing service for residents and workers subject to compulsory testing.

A total of 48 cases were reported in Hong Kong in the past 14 days, all of which are imported.
