3 imported COVID-19 cases reported

August 2, 2021

The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating three additional COVID-19 cases involving two men who arrived from the Netherlands and the United Arab Emirates as well as a woman arriving from the US.

The male patient arriving from the Netherlands resided at Tower 6, Harbour Place in Hung Hom. He left Hong Kong on July 11 for Spain and his testing result a day before departure was negative. He returned to Hong Kong via flight KL819 on July 31 and his specimen collected at the airport on the same day tested positive with L452R mutant strain.

The woman arriving from the US stayed at Bohemian House, 321 Des Voeux Road West. She left Hong Kong on July 16 for the US and her testing result two days prior to departure was negative. She returned to Hong Kong via flight CX883 on August 1 and her specimen collected at the airport on the same day tested positive with N501Y mutant strain.

The centre classified these two cases as imported ones as the patients spent the majority of their incubation periods overseas and are likely to have been infected there.

As a prudent measure, the premises where they had stayed, worked or visited during the incubation period in Hong Kong have been put under compulsory testing notices. Epidemiological investigations and tracing are ongoing.

For a previous non-locally confirmed case with the L452R mutant strain, people who had been on the container ship Maersk Lima at Kwai Tsing Container Terminals are required to undergo additional testing in accordance with the compulsory testing notice.

Meanwhile, for the airport, as staff face higher infection risks due to their chances of coming into contact with inbound travellers, they are required to undergo regular testing.

The latest list of mobile specimen collection stations as well as their service hours was also announced.

Separately, the Government clarified that the address of Euler Hermes Hong Kong Services which was included in yesterday’s compulsory testing notice should be Suites 312-314, 3/F, Cityplaza 4, 12 Taikoo Wan Road, Quarry Bay.

A total of 29 cases were reported in Hong Kong in the past 14 days and all of them are imported.
