1 imported COVID-19 case recorded

July 5, 2021

The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating one additional COVID-19 case involving an 18-year-old man who arrived from the UK.

The centre also announced that considering epidemiological information and genetic sequencing findings, it has amended the classification of case 11937, which involves a 41-year old woman and the L452R mutant strain, from a local case with unknown sources to epidemiologically linked with an imported case.

The patient worked as a part-time cleaner at a designated quarantine hotel. The latest genetic sequencing of her viral sample conducted by the University of Hong Kong was found to be genetically linked to the imported case numbered 11920, who had earlier stayed at a room of the same hotel where case 11937 subsequently carried out cleaning work.

A total of 56 cases were reported in Hong Kong in the past 14 days, including three import-related cases.

Meanwhile, two schools where outbreaks of upper respiratory tract infection and influenza-like illness had occurred are covered in the compulsory testing notice.
