August goods exports drop 1.2%

The volume of Hong Kong’s total goods exports decreased by 1.2% year-on-year in August, the Census & Statistics Department announced today.

 

The volume of goods imports for the month fell 4.5% compared to the same period last year.

 

Prices of goods exports and imports decreased 0.9% and 1.3% year-on-year for the month.

 

On a seasonally adjusted basis, the volume of goods exports remained virtually unchanged in the three-month period ending August compared with the preceding three months, while the volume of goods imports rose 1%.

 

Comparing the first eight months of 2020 with the same period in 2019, the volume of goods exports fell 5%, while that of goods imports dropped 7.2%.

 

Both prices of goods exports and imports decreased 0.8%.
