Air quality advisory issued

October 19, 2019

The Environmental Protection Department today said it has recorded higher than normal pollution levels since noon.

At 6pm, the Air Quality Health Index at Tuen Mun general monitoring station reached the “Serious” level, the department said.

Hong Kong is under the influence of a high pollution background airstream, it said, adding sunshine is enhancing photochemical smog activity and the rapid formation of ozone and fine particulates in the Pearl River Delta region.

The Hong Kong Observatory forecasts that the weather will remain fine with moderate easterly winds in the next few days.

Pollution levels are expected to remain higher than normal until there are stronger winds in the latter part of next week.
