A completion ceremony was held today to mark improvements to hiking trails at Wu Tip Shan and Wa Mei Shan in Fanling and the opening of the Wu Tip Shan Sitting-out Area under the North District Signature Project Scheme.

Works included the construction of a landmark viewing platform and a place to sit outdoors, as well as landscaping along the trails.

The project also improved existing and new facilities including pavilions, benches, viewing platforms, directional signs, fitness equipment, railings and a solar-powered lighting system.

Speaking at the ceremony, Secretary for Home Affairs Lau Kong-wah said the completion of the project is the fruitful outcome of the joint effort among the Government, the North District Council and the community.

He added that he looks forward to their full co-operation to provide more future facilities to benefit the public.

The Government earmarked $100 million for each District Council under the Signature Project Scheme to implement up to two large-scale projects to meet district needs.

The North District Council executed two projects aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle, eco-tourism and nature conservation public awareness.
