Health chief heads to Australia

September 15, 2019

Secretary for Food & Health Prof Sophia Chan will visit Melbourne and Sydney from September 16 to 20.

Her goal is to promote the limited registration scheme for non-locally trained doctors and encourage qualified non-locally trained healthcare professionals to serve in Hong Kong’s public healthcare system.

Prof Chan will meet Chief Health Officer of the Department of Health & Human Services of Victoria Brett Sutton in Melbourne and New South Wales Minister for Health Brad Hazzard in Sydney.

She will join gatherings with Hong Kong people and healthcare professionals living in both places, and host a reception and information sessions for Hong Kong students studying in major universities there.

The health chief will also visit Monash University's Peninsula campus in Melbourne to meet students studying occupational therapy and physiotherapy, and call on University of Melbourne and University of Sydney senior healthcare teaching staff.

Under Secretary for Food & Health Chui Tak-yi will be the Acting Secretary during Prof Chan’s absence.
