Secretary for Justice Teresa Cheng addresses the 2019 Hague Conference on Private International Law Judgments Convention: Global Enforcement of Civil & Commercial Judgments.

More than 200 representatives from 18 jurisdictions took part in the 2019 Hague Conference on Private International Law Judgments Convention: Global Enforcement of Civil & Commercial Judgments in Hong Kong today.

The assembly was jointly organised with the Department of Justice to promote the Convention on the Recognition & Enforcement of Foreign Judgments in Civil or Commercial Matters following the convention’s July 2 conclusion.

Secretary for Justice Teresa Cheng, together with Director-General of the Department of Treaty & Law of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Jia Guide and Secretary General of the Hague Conference on Private International Law Christophe Bernasconi opened the conference.

The conference aims to simplify the recognition and enforcement of a judgment in other jurisdictions, thereby facilitating the global circulation of judgments with less transaction and litigation costs as well as risks associated with cross-border dealings, and hence promote effective access to justice.
