Gov’t lauds science prize winner
Secretary for Innovation & Technology Nicholas Yang today congratulated Ng Yun-hau from the City University of Hong Kong on winning the 2019 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Science Prize for Innovation, Research & Education.
Mr Yang noted that Mr Ng, an Associate Professor of the School of Energy & Environment, specialises in using sunlight to split water into clean hydrogen to generate renewable energy.
The award recognises his research excellence in the area of natural sciences and his close co-operation with scientists from other APEC member economies, Mr Yang added.
The Innovation & Technology Commission nominated Mr Ng for the award after inviting nominations from nine local universities in April.
He was then selected by the APEC Policy Partnership on Science, Technology & Innovation member economies as this year’s winner.
The award ceremony was held on August 26 in Puerto Varas, Chile.
