SJ starts Beijing visit

Secretary for Justice Teresa Cheng started her visit to Beijing today by meeting representatives from the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Supreme People’s Court.

 

She promoted Hong Kong’s legal as well as dispute avoidance and resolution services, and exchanged views with Mainland counterparts on the latest development of the related issues internationally and in the Mainland.

 

Ms Cheng said she was pleased to learn that the Central Government supports Hong Kong as a centre for arbitration and mediation in the Asia-Pacific region.

 

In the morning, Ms Cheng met Vice Minister of Justice Xiong Xuanguo to explore opportunities for further collaboration in legal services under the Mainland & Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement and in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

 

She also met Ministry of Foreign Affairs Department of Treaty & Law Director-General Jia Guide to discuss the dispute avoidance and resolution services under the Belt & Road Initiative.

 

In the afternoon, Ms Cheng called on Supreme People’s Court Vice-President Yang Wanming, then toured the Beijing Internet Court and the Beijing Intellectual Property Court.
