Chief Executive Carrie Lam (centre) and Secretary for Home Affairs Lau Kong-wah (third left) attend the opening ceremony of the North Lamma Public Library and Heritage & Cultural Showroom, Lamma Island.

Chief Executive Carrie Lam and Secretary for Home Affairs Lau Kong-wah officiated today at the opening ceremony for the North Lamma Public Library and Heritage & Cultural Showroom, Lamma Island.

The ceremony was held outside 1 Yung Shue Wan Main Street.

Under the district-led Signature Project Scheme, the Government earmarked $100 million for each district to implement up to two large-scale and sustainable ventures to address district needs.

One such example is the Yung Shue Wan project, a three-storey building that replaces a demolished one-storey library.

The library is located on the first and second floors, while the Heritage & Cultural Showroom is situated on the ground floor. It showcases antiquities and videos about the history and culture of Lamma Island and its residents.

Inspired by a book cover design, the building adopts the concept of "Reading a book on Lamma by the sea”.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Lau said the new Heritage & Cultural Showroom gives full play to its proximity to the Yung Shue Wan Ferry Pier, enabling the public and tourists to visit the showroom once they arrive in Yung Shue Wan.

The library features new facilities and services and its opening hours have been extended, he added.
