Negative sentiments being eased

July 9, 2019

Chief Executive Carrie Lam today said the Government is making an effort to reduce as much as possible the negative sentiments that are now pervasive in Hong Kong.

Speaking to the press ahead of the Executive Council meeting this morning, Mrs Lam said the Government is saddened that people are harming themselves either directly or indirectly because of the Fugitive Offenders Ordinance amendment.

The Government has mobilised many non-governmental organisations to provide counselling services to young people in the past week, she said.

Noting that the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination results will be announced tomorrow, Mrs Lam called on school principals, teachers and parents to give extra support to students.

The Chief Executive stressed that the Government would put more resources into areas such as diversified education and counselling services to alleviate young people’s anxiety.
