Police clarify journalists' statement

July 7, 2019

The Police have clarified they have not requested or suggested the Mass Transit Railway Corporation (MTRC) to refuse journalists from entering the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link's Hong Kong West Kowloon Station for news coverage.

They made the clarification in response to a Hong Kong Journalists Association statement issued at about 3.30pm.

The statement said the Police had requested the MTRC to refuse journalists from entering Hong Kong West Kowloon Station.

The association issued an updated statement at 4.30pm, saying the Police and MTRC blocked the station and refused journalists from entering for news coverage.

The Police expressed the deepest disappointment and regret on the unfounded allegations.

Hong Kong West Kowloon Station is managed by the MTRC, the force noted.

It added that the Police respect the MTRC for taking measures at the station and are assisting its arrangements to ensure the safety of every user.
