Police HQ protesters condemned

June 22, 2019

The Police condemned protesters for blocking Harcourt Road, Arsenal Street and Gloucester Road and besieging Police Headquarters yesterday as their acts seriously affected Police work, including the provision of emergency services.

The Report Room in Wan Chai Police Station has suspended service since 1.40pm, while 60 calls of the 999 hotline in Wan Chai Division could not be immediately handled.

As staff members could not enter Police Headquarters, the e-Report Centre follow up service has been suspended from 11pm.

Nine female and four male staff members were sent to hospital for treatment with considerable delay during the blockade last night.

While besieging the building, the protesters blocked the entrance and exit gates with mills barriers and sundries, threw eggs at the headquarters, drew graffiti on the outer walls and covered the closed-circuit television on the outer wall with adhesive tape.

The protesters also splashed oil onto police officers and targeted laser beams at their eyes.

The Police said the greatest tolerance has been shown to the protesters, but their means of expressing views became illegal, irrational and unreasonable, adding such illegal activities will be followed up stringently.
