Secretary for Food & Health Prof Sophia Chan today visited Mei Lam Estate and the Prince of Wales Hospital during a tour to Sha Tin.

Prof Chan learned about the anti-rodent operation in designated target areas in Mei Lam Estate.

At the Prince of Wales Hospital, she chatted with frontline staff and inspected the progress of the hospital’s redevelopment project.

The redevelopment project is part of the Hospital Authority’s 10-year Hospital Development Plan. In the first stage of the project, a new In-patient Extension Block will be built while existing buildings be renovated.

Prof Chan noted the project’s first stage, when completed, will bring about an additional 450 beds and 16 operating theatres.

The Hospital Authority will start preparing for the project’s second stage, which will cover the construction of an Ambulatory Care Centre and a Cancer Centre, in a timely manner, she added.

The health chief also met Sha Tin District Council members to listen to their views on various healthcare and environmental hygiene issues.
