CE visits a primary school

October 12, 2018

Chief Executive Carrie Lam visited Ying Wa Primary School in Sham Shui Po today to learn about extra-curricular activities for students.

She also discussed the teaching and learning environment of the Direct Subsidy Scheme school with its teaching staff.

Mrs Lam toured the campus, watched students participate in extra-curricular activities, including dancing, table tennis and volleyball and enjoyed a performance by the orchestra, the choir and the Chinese drum team.

The Chief Executive was glad the school attaches great importance on life-wide learning and arranges a wide range of extra-curricular activities for students.

“The current-term Government regards the expenditure on education as the most meaningful investment in our future,” she said.

She said the second Policy Address allocates considerable new resources and puts forward a number of new initiatives to give further support for schools to enhance the quality of education.

Mrs Lam noted her Policy Address proposes that, starting from the 2019-20 school year, a new recurrent Life-wide Learning Grant with an annual provision of $900 million should be made to public sector and Direct Subsidy Scheme schools to encourage them to extend learning beyond classrooms.

“I look forward to working with the education sector to create a diverse and enjoyable learning environment for students to grow up in a comprehensive and balanced manner,” she added.
