CS, SHA visit Shenzhen

August 10, 2018

Chief Secretary Matthew Cheung, Secretary for Home Affairs Lau Kong-wah and members of the Youth Development Commission travelled to Shenzhen today to meet Hong Kong interns.

They visited enterprises and organisations providing internships for Hong Kong youths under the Funding Scheme for Youth Internship in the Mainland launched by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.

Mr Cheung, also the commission’s Chairman, toured a digital media service company and an innovation and technology service company in Qianhai.

Meanwhile, Mr Lau visited Nanshan and toured an organisation that offers entrepreneurship services to small and medium-sized enterprises and a company which provides integrated logistics services.

After the visits, Mr Cheung, Mr Lau and commission members had lunch with a number of Hong Kong interns to learn more about their internship experience in the Mainland.

Mr Cheung said he was glad Hong Kong youths joined the internship programmes for different provinces through the funding scheme, enabling them to gain hands-on working experience and deepening their understanding of the job market, work culture and career opportunities in the Mainland.

The scheme has subsidised 466 projects and provided internship places for 14,000 Hong Kong youths since it started in 2014-15.

In 2018-19, it is subsidising 135 projects in the Mainland, benefitting about 3,600 youths.
