Accompanied by students joining the Be a Government Official for a Day programme, Secretary for Constitutional & Mainland Affairs Patrick Nip (second right) visits a large enterprise which has adopted the Code of Practice against Discrimination in Employment on the Ground of Sexual Orientation.

Secretary for Constitutional & Mainland Affairs Patrick Nip visited a large local enterprise today which has adopted the Code of Practice against Discrimination in Employment on the Ground of Sexual Orientation.

He was accompanied by two students joining the Be a Government Official for a Day programme.

The code seeks to eliminate discriminatory practices and behaviour in the workplace and promotes equal employment opportunities among all people, irrespective of their sexual orientation.

Mr Nip said: "I am pleased to learn that the large local travel agency I visited today has responded to our appeal and pledged to adopt the code.

"The support and participation of local enterprises shows that local employers are willing to employ people with diverse backgrounds and are keen to establish an inclusive workspace with equal opportunities for all."

More than 300 organisations from various sectors have adopted the code. More than 160 of them are large enterprises employing over 500 people.

Mr Nip hopes more employers will follow suit and join hands in eliminating discrimination.

The Tung Wah Group of Hospitals runs a Government-funded 24-hour hotline to provide support and counselling services for sexual minorities and their families, as well as those who are unsure about their sexual orientation and gender identity.

The hotline has served over 1,200 people since it started operating in January.
