Many factors in curriculum change

July 11, 2018

Numerous factors must be considered in revising a subject's curriculum.

Secretary for Education Kevin Yeung made the statement today, telling the media the Government will see whether the curriculum meets the community's needs and helps students in their learning.

The trend in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination results can show if there is room for improvement in teaching and learning, he said, but it requires long-term observation as the scores fluctuate every year.

When asked about the decline of candidates' scores in the liberal studies subject, Mr Yeung said the drop is not significant this year.

He said the Government will not conduct a major revision by referring merely to a single year result, adding it may consider an adjustment if the matter continues for a long period of time.

The Task Force on Review of School Curriculum has been formed to scrutinise primary and secondary curricula holistically, he added.
