Gov't responds to UK MPs

July 10, 2018

Hong Kong has been exercising a high degree of autonomy and "Hong Kong people administering Hong Kong" in strict accordance with the Basic Law since its return to the Motherland, the Government says.

It made the statement tonight in response to comments contained in a joint letter from some UK Parliament members on the condition of Hong Kong's fundamental freedoms and rule of law.

The city's high degree of autonomy and "Hong Kong people administering Hong Kong", exercised strictly according to the Basic Law, show the full and successful implementation of the "one country, two systems" policy, which has been widely recognised by the international community, the statement said.

The Government added foreign legislatures should not interfere in Hong Kong's internal affairs, noting arbitrary statements can undermine the rule of law and Hong Kong's well-recognised reputation in this regard.
