Gov't to make flats more affordable

July 10, 2018

The Government is willing to bear the financial costs involved in making subsidised sale flats provided by the Housing Authority and the Housing Society more affordable.

Chief Executive Carrie Lam made the statement before today's Executive Council meeting.

The Government announced last month it will revise the affordability test of the pricing mechanism for subsidised sale flats.

The new pricing policy may affect the Housing Society even though it is a non-government organisation, Mrs Lam said, adding some of its land has been provided by the Government.

She added the Government will ask the body to set the prices of its subsidised sale flats according to the affordability of target groups.

If the Housing Society faces financial difficulties after the move, the Government is willing to liaise with it over future financial arrangements.

Mrs Lam said the issue can be tackled by re-examining the amount of money the body pays for government land.
