Views sought on teacher dev't

July 6, 2018

The Task Force on Professional Development of Teachers launched a two-month consultation today to gather views on its recommendations.

Task Force Chairperson Carrie Willis said: "As our society is changing rapidly, the teaching profession must keep pace with the times and strive for continuous development so we can better prepare our students for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.

"An effective and strategic approach to supporting and promoting teachers' continuing professional development is thus of paramount importance."

Set up in November, the task force works to promote the culture of continuing professional development, give due recognition to and raise the professional status of teachers, retain and attract talent, and ultimately enhance the professional standards and quality of learning and teaching.

It has proposed 20 preliminary recommendations including establishing a professional ladder for teachers, reviewing manpower and salary arrangements, and implementing a policy for an all-graduate teaching force.

Stakeholders are invited to send in their views and suggestions by fax (3798 0105) or email by September 7.

The task force will also hold three sessions to brief and consult stakeholders.
