Acting Chief Executive Matthew Cheung opened the Fight Drugs Together 2018 event today, launching this year's citywide anti-drug campaign.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr Cheung said the Government is committed to fighting drug abuse and Hong Kong has made substantial progress in its anti-drug efforts in recent years.

"Our anti-drug policy is embodied in the 'five-pronged' strategy, namely preventive education and publicity, treatment and rehabilitation, legislation and law enforcement, external co-operation and research.

"At the same time, we have also strengthened preventive measures and further encouraged people with drug problems to seek help with a view to reducing drug-related offences."

Organised by the Security Bureau's Narcotics Division, the Action Committee Against Narcotics and Radio Television Hong Kong, the event ties in with the United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking on June 26.

More than 1,300 young people and guests attended the launch, and they committed themselves to standing firm against drugs.
