Customs officers seize 3.1kg of rhino horn worth $620,000 at the airport.

Customs officers have arrested a passenger at the airport after seizing 3.1kg of rhino horn in his luggage.

 

The haul, worth $620,000, was found yesterday inside a black plastic bag in the man's suitcase.

 

The 21-year-old arrived from Mozambique via Johannesburg and Qatar.

 

The Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department is investigating the case.

 

Under the Protection of Endangered Species of Animals & Plants Ordinance, the maximum penalty for endangered species smugglers is 10 years in jail and a $10 million fine.
