Fintech fusion:

Secretary for Financial Services & the Treasury James Lau promotes Hong Kong’s role as a fintech hub at a luncheon in San Francisco.

Secretary for Financial Services & the Treasury James Lau started his visit to San Francisco yesterday by promoting Hong Kong as a fintech hub and meeting with sector experts to explore collaboration opportunities.

 

He visited the Envestnet | Yodlee Incubator and met its management team to discuss fintech trends and infrastructure support for fintech developments in Hong Kong.

 

Mr Lau then attended a luncheon organised by the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office in San Francisco and the Plug & Play Tech Center.

 

The centre is an accelerator specialising in growing tech startups and connecting them with corporate partners for business development.

 

Giving a keynote speech at the event, Mr Lau emphasised Hong Kong has emerged as the link between the East and West in the expanding area of fintech.

 

He later visited the BNY Mellon Silicon Valley Innovation Center and met Stanford Graduate School of Business professors.

 

He ended the day by having dinner with venture capitalists and leaders of fintech companies to discuss global financial innovation and the investment opportunities Hong Kong can offer.
