The civil aviation authorities of Hong Kong, the Mainland and Macau have signed deals to improve national aviation co-operation.

The administrations today signed a Co-operative Arrangement on Operational Evaluation of C919 Aircraft and a Memorandum of Understanding on Closer Co-operation on Type Certification in Hong Kong.

Secretary for Transport & Housing Frank Chan witnessed the signing with Civil Aviation Administration of China Deputy Administrator Li Jian.

Under the arrangement, the Civil Aviation Department and Macau's Civil Aviation Authority will send representatives to join the Civil Aviation Administration's evaluation boards and participate in operational evaluation of the C919 aircraft, China's homegrown large passenger plane.

The evaluations include flight crew qualification specification, master minimum equipment list, maintenance requirements and passenger cabin emergency evacuation demonstration.

Meanwhile, the memorandum will promote further co-operation and enhanced efficiency by reducing airlines' repetitive technical evaluations, tests and inspections in relation to certification application and the use of aircraft parts.

It will also enhance aviation safety and environmental protection.

Mr Chan said at the ceremony the development of large civil aviation aircraft is a major decision and strategy of the country, and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government hopes the three parties will jointly contribute to the development of the country's civil aviation industry.

Mr Chan also met Mr Li to discuss the progress of the three-runway system at Hong Kong International Airport and Pearl River Delta airspace.

Mr Li said Mainland authorities support the system.
