The Government is willing to offer policy and financial support to improve lift safety.

Chief Executive Carrie Lam made the statement at her Legislative Council question and answer session today, where she said the safety of Hong Kong's ageing lifts is worrying.

She is also concerned about a shortage of lift repair and maintenance technicians in the city.

Government funds have helped owners to enhance the safety standard of old buildings in the past decade.

The Government is open to providing support for lift safety enhancement measures.

It is also working to improve fire safety, Mrs Lam added.
